Max Hall Does It All

Badin’s Max Hall does it all on stage

If it’s happening on stage at Badin High School, senior Max Hall will be there.

“It just happened on a whim,” said Hall of his acting efforts. “There was a show called ‘Bad Auditions for Bad Actors’ – I thought, ‘Hey, I’m a bad actor. I ought to try that.’ After that, I just got the theater bug. I said, ‘This is fun!’”

Hall, a graduate of Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School and a resident of Liberty Township, has been on the Badin stage ever since that freshman year bow. He’s also a valued member of the Badin Rocks ensemble and the Liturgical Music group, where he plays the bass guitar.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of it,” remarked Hall, who can typically be found wearing a tie as he walks the corridors of BHS. “It’s been a bit of a roller coaster, as most high schools are, but overall it’s been an awesome experience.”

“He’s always willing to try the new and crazy things I come up with,” said Sarah Cline, Badin’s drama coordinator. “When he was in ‘Back to the ‘80s’ (as a sophomore), I wanted him to jump off the car for his number, ‘Get Out of My Dreams.’ He wasn’t so sure about it, but he tried it, and he did it!”

“Being on stage is fun,” Hall said. “It’s fun to be different people. You get a thrill being on stage. You wonder, ‘Am I going to remember the script?’ At the end of the show, you think, ‘How did I do that?’ And then you do it again.”

“He’s a consistent and persistent hard-working musician,” said Matt McCormick, who helps oversee the Badin music program. “He really knows how to bring the house down.”

Hall was stellar as Linus in Badin’s “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” in the fall of 2018.

“He likes to delve deeper into the characters,” Cline pointed out. “As Linus, he wasn’t afraid to carry the blanket with him to a few classes to try to understand why Linus carried it with him everywhere.”

Hall’s final role in a Badin musical came in late November in “The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

Hall said he enjoyed the Badin theater “family” … noting that he is still in touch with various people who have graduated.

“When you’re in a show, it’s the same thrill,” Hall said. “You walk out and there’s a big crowd. They’re all focused on you. And then you rinse and repeat. It’s just been a great experience.”

Hall is looking to attend Northern Kentucky University and major in Computer Science and Business … but of course, also leave time for a minor in Jazz Studies.
