Indie Leather owners Kirk and Sandy Brown create bracelets for men and women of all ages

Kirk and Sandy Brown are making their marks on the Hamilton community.

The Browns own Indie Leather, which has been putting top-quality dyed, painted and hand-cut bracelets on the wrists of locals for several years. They can be found at almost every area craft show.

The bracelets are made in a studio at their home.

“We specialize in hand-painted, portrait-style bracelets of loved ones or pets who have passed away, enacting a lovely tribute to them. The main theme of our bracelets is Christian-based, but we also expand to include motorcycle themes, Christmas themes, Halloween themes and patriotic USA themes as well,” Kirk Brown said.

The bracelets are for men, women and children of all sizes.

“No wrist is too thin or too big for us to fit. We also make earrings, key fobs, bookmarks, knife sheaths, holsters, belts and guitar straps. Basically, if you can dream it up, we can make it,” he said.

The Browns got their start after they met a man who was selling leather goods at a craft show 4 years ago. Kirk Brown says his prices were very high and it dawned on him that he could make the same items more affordably for buyers.

“When my wife gave her enthusiastic approval, I knew we were on to something. Our prices for our bracelets range from $12 to $20, typically — some may be a little more, or less, depending on how involved they are,” he said.

The Indie Leather business name was inspired by their first granddaughter, Indiana.

Kirk Brown is a chiropractor, but he says when he started college at Miami University, initially it was for art.

“God saw fit to give my father a talent for drawing that carried over to me and my siblings. After going to a starving artist sale and beginning chiropractic care for neck and back issues, I changed my plans and began taking classes to pursue a career as a chiropractor. I have been a chiropractor for the past 36 years on the west side of Hamilton. Now in my down time at home, I can use my abilities for art and drawing in our Indie Leather business,” he said.

The Browns are soon opening a store on Etsy to sell the bracelets online. Those interested in seeing what is available or making a request may contact the couple at facebook.com/indieleather16. Sandy Brown may be emailed at tennismom272@hotmail.com.
