If you are driving along Eaton Avenue, it’s not too hard to miss the small sign for Gina’s just past Flub’s. The sign usually mentions something about a daily special and points back a ways from the road to a restaurant called Gina’s. Locals know all about it, but being taken there for the first time is a Hamilton treat.
Gina’s specializes in homestyle Italian food: baked spaghetti with mozzarella bubbling and brown on top, pizzas, burgers, and sub sandwiches. The food is reasonably priced and is served with a smile but no ceremony. On tap at the bar are the standby beers but also some local craft brews. The neighborhood gathers for Karaoke nights and can view sports games on the televisions.
The latest addition to this restaurant staple of the West Side is a beautiful, all-wood covered patio, in addition to the open deck that has been a part of the restaurant for a while. With this, as well as event space in the basement of the building, Gina’s expands its footprint during the beautiful summer months. Sitting in the shade of an umbrella and unwinding after a long day with a frosty drink and a basket of toasted ravioli sounds pretty much perfect.
Locals choose Gina’s for more than the food and drinks: the community spirit is here, and you are likely to see someone you know whenever you come by. Fundraisers for local events like Operation Pumpkin bring in the crowds, and folks know that their favorite wait staff members will remember them with a wry smile as they enter the building.
Gina’s evolved from a previous business at the same location, taking on the name “Gina’s Italian Kitchen and Tavern.” It remains a great place to stop for a pint and chat with those around you, a watering hole with amazing food that doesn’t need to be fancy to be downright delicious.
